We Are Getting CLOSER!!!

A lot has happened in the past week or so regarding participants being able to ‘Return To Sports’.  As you can appreciate, the process is being carefully planned at every stage and involves a number of provincial ministries, organizations, Parks and Rec departments, and, of course, the Public Health people.

Attached to this update are some links to the different entities with which the ASA is connected and who will generally be overseeing our ‘Return to Train’ protocols.

The ASA Technical Staff and the Board of Directors have been working hard on having all the protocols and a variety of programs in place for any number of scenarios that may arise over the next couple of weeks.  PLEASE keep an eye on our social media, your emails, and our website for updates.

We do fully expect to have programs running over the summer in an effort to get our players back on the field and working on their skills in preparation for the different phases of our ‘return to normal’.

What to Expect When We Return to Play

Our ‘Return To Play’ protocols will be very similar to what you might see at your child’s school, going to the hairdresser, dentist, or other public areas.

As mentioned, we have a variety of programs and plans in place ready to be rolled out once we get the final okay to run programs.  Clearly, it won’t be ‘business as usual’ for some time but we do hope to get our players out on the pitch sooner than later, kicking the ball about and playing the game we all love.

When we do return, we’ll be adhering to a number of basic protocols as outlined in the following letter to all members of our club:

To our members:

As British Columbia public health authorities develop guidelines to lift some restrictions on gathering in a responsible way, the Abbotsford Soccer Association has been working with viaSport, the Province of British Columbia, B.C. Soccer, Canada Soccer, and the City of Abbotsford to ensure we fully comply with the standing orders of the Chief Provincial Health Office, our own soccer organizations and all provincial and city expectations.

The Return to Sport Plan developed by Abbotsford Soccer ensures

  • health and safety of all individuals is a priority
  • activities are in alignment with provincial health recommendations
  • modifications to activities are in place in order to reduce the risks to every participant
  • our sport is united and aligned with other soccer clubs and our governing bodies

While we do hope things will return to normal in the not too distant future, currently this Return to Sport Plan will be the ‘new normal’ until we are advised otherwise by public health authorities.

If you choose to participate, you must follow these rules:

  1. If you don’t feel well or are displaying symptoms of COVID-19, you MUST stay home
  2. If you have travelled outside of Canada, you are not permitted at the facility until you have self-isolated for a minimum of 14 days.
  3. If you live in a household with someone who has COVID-19 or is showing symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home
  4. Wash your hands before participating
  5. Bring your own equipment, water bottle, and hand sanitizer
  6. Comply with physical distancing measures at all times.
  7. Avoid physical contact with others, including shaking hands, high fives, etc.
  8. Leave the field of play as quickly as possible after you finish

Our Return to Sport Plan is based on current public health guidance.  While we are all doing our best to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19, while the virus circulates in our communities, it is impossible to completely eliminate the risk.  Each participant must make their own decision as to whether it is in their best interest to resume participation at this time.  You must take into account your own circumstances and make the decision that is right for you.  Should you choose to join us, we require your full cooperation with our Return To Sport Plan.
