Gurp Mahil Joins ASA Coaching Staff

The Abbotsford Soccer Association is pleased to announce the addition of Gurp Mahil to its coaching staff.  Gurp is the former Technical Director of Athletic India Football Club and brings his wealth of experience and passion for soccer to the ASA.  The ASA has worked closely with AIFC over the last couple of years hosting a number of AIFC teams during the Fall/Winter seasons.  Long-time AIFC coach Aman Dhillon will also join the ASA moving forward.

“I really like the direction we are going,” says Mahil of the Abbotsford Soccer Association. “The ASA is a dynamic club focussing on building and promoting programs focused on diversity, respecting culture, and meeting the needs of our growing and changing community.” Gurp will oversee the launch of the Spring/Summer Tournament Team program at Abbotsford Soccer.  The teams in this program will play in the USSL Tournament program that runs in the Lower Mainland between April and July each year.

“The ASA’s dedication to offering programs focused on grassroots players and also avenues for player development into more competitive programs makes the move to them an easy one.  Our philosophies are the same.  Basically, getting kids playing the game while still challenging them to develop according to their own ability,” says Mahil. “I’m excited to be a part of the growth of this club.”

The ASA is a BC Soccer Association Charter Standard One member and offers programs and coaching that support long term player and coach development.  ASA is committed to enhancing its current status as a BC Soccer Charter Standard One club through additional opportunities of the Canada Soccer National Club License program.

Ian Knight, ASA’s Technical Director, says, “Gurp brings a wealth of coaching and organizational experience to our club.  We are lucky to have someone of his experience, dedication, and passion helping us continue to grow soccer in Abbotsford. He and Aman are welcome additions to our coaching staff. ASA is delighted to welcome all former members of the AIFC club to the ASA on a full-time, year-round basis and is excited to add the opportunity to launch a Spring/Summer Tournament team program to our array of annual programs.”

 

Awards Night/Annual General Meeting

            Our Annual General Meeting and Awards night has been confirmed for Sunday, March 8th at 6:30 pm.  We will again be in the upstairs Conference Room of the Legacy Centre located on site at Exhibition Park.

The  Awards portion of the evening takes place from 6:30 pm until about 7:30 pm. Following a short break, the AGM convenes, usually about 7:45 pm.  More information regarding the Awards portion of the evening will be forthcoming.

There are two executive positions up for renewal this year.  The President, Secretary and all Director spots are open for nominations until February 8, 2020.  Attached is a link to indicate your interest in any of the positions that are available.

 President

The President shall preside at all meetings of the members of the Club and meetings of the Board. The President shall: be an ex officio a member of all committees, except any nominations committee; shall appoint all chairs of standing and special committees subject to ratification by the Board; shall coordinate all duties of the Board, committees, and staff; and shall be the spokesperson for the Club. The President has no authority to act unless directed to do so by the Board.  The President will supervise all paid staff employed by the Club.

Secretary                  

The Secretary shall: keep a record of all minutes of the organization; keep on file all committee reports; notify officers and committee members of their election or appointment; furnish committees with those documents required to perform their duties; sign all certified copies of acts of the organization, unless otherwise specified in the Club’s published rules; maintain record books in which the constitution, published rules and minutes are entered and to have the current record books available at each meeting; to send out to the membership a notice of each meeting of the members; send out to the Board notice of each meeting of the Board; conduct the general correspondence of the organization that is not the proper function of another office or committee; prepare, prior to each meeting in consultation with the presiding officer, an order of business; and in the absence of the president and vice-president, preside until the immediate election or appointment of a new presiding officer.

Directors                   (all Director positions are one year terms)

Directors may be assigned a variety of duties, be asked to service various club and district boards, or be part of committees as required.

Meetings are usually the second Monday of each month at 7 pm.
