U15 Abbotsford Storm Golden at Coastal Classic Cup Finals!!
The U-15 girls Abbotsford Storm captured the gold medal at the Coastal Classic Cup held on April 17th.
The Storm beat the SUS Chaos 1-0 in a tight game.
The lone marker came when Amber Broerken found the back of the net on a volley off a Jenny Renz corner kick.
Brooke Rinfret took MVP honours.
Winning the championship was a fitting end to a remarkable season that saw the girls win the U-15 Silver 1 division and voted the Abbotsford Soccer Association girl's Gold/Silver team of the year.
The Storm is also recognized for their terrific display of sportsmanship and team camaraderie.
Congratulations girls!
U11 Abbotsford Titans triumph through hard work and their
"Love for the Game" !!
Last year was more than a challenging season for the Titans. With no
wins, no ties, all losses, and very few goals, it might be
understandable if the boys had become discouraged from the weekly
beatings and moved on to other sports or activities. However, out of
their love for the game, the boys returned this season with renewed hope
to improve on their disappointing 2009 record. With the addition of a
few new faces, a dedicated manager, and a last minute coach, the boys
charged into the new season hopeful but hesitant—the pains of last
season were not soon forgotten.
To prepare for a better season, the boys agreed to practice twice a
week. The season opener started slowly, but the boys eventually found
the net. With the first goal, the thawing of self-doubt began. Before
the final whistle, the Titans managed to add 4 more goals. The second
game was almost a carbon copy of the first; the only difference was in
the confidence and joy being built in the minds and etched on the faces
of the boys. For the next four weeks, the new Titans continued to roll
over their opponents. By mid-season, the boys were undefeated and had
only allowed a small handful of goals. And then a new challenge faced
these 10 year olds.
Following a particularly difficult game—a come from behind tie—the boys
found themselves without their coach, who was unable to complete the
season. After a few days of uncertainty, a new coach and two assistants
stepped forward, thus ensuring the boys would be able to finish the
season. The boys did not miss a step. With a tenacious offensive
juggernaut combined with an impressive defensive wall on the backline,
the boys finished out the second half of the season without a loss. In
many of these games, the boys held a clean sheet (no goals against) and
scored numerous times against their opponents. With 9 wins, 1 tie, and 0
losses, the Titans had achieved the unimaginable only a year ago: an
undefeated season and the regular season title. Next—the playoffs!
With the playoffs being a six team, five game round robin, these games
were much more intense. Several of the games turned out to be one goal
affairs. In the end, the boys had won the Cup by the fourth game. With
nothing left to prove, it might be understandable if the boys had let up
in the fifth and final game of the playoffs; however, the boys went the
distance: 5 wins and 0 losses.
While the Titans managed to have a Cinderella year by winning the league
and playoffs with an undefeated season, they did so by overcoming
adversity. More importantly, they learned to persevere and, while doing
so, were rewarded with success and a renewed love of the game.
Congratulations Titans: Jared Andrews, Kevin Bandesha, Aidan Bramall,
Derek Frayn, Evan Gill, Liam Klassen, Andy Lee, Argyle McArthur, Parm
Minhas, Aaron Mulama, Sunvir Sidhu, Bobby Sodhi, and Dawson Strauss.
U12 Abbotsford Thunder win Gold at Mission's Steve Bonnet Tournament 2010!
The U12 Girls Thunder took part in the Mission Steve Bonnet
tournament and won GOLD! The girls played very well and went 4 games
without a loss. Saturday’s first game started off slow and the game was
scoreless at half time. But once the girls took to the field in the
second half they were pumped! Scoring 5 goals in the second half of the
game they won 5-1. The second game on Saturday saw them win 2-1. The
girls were passing well, playing their positions and having a GREAT time
on the field. Their enthusiasm was unmistakable with the players on the
bench cheering on their teammates with never ending energy! : ) Sunday’s
morning game was a bit tougher ending in a 1-1 tie and we wound up
playing that same team for GOLD that afternoon. That final game however,
the girls went into the game wanting the win and they got it with a 2-0
win to take the GOLD medal!
What a great weekend it was with some awesome soccer, all kinds of
weather, loads of fun and a great dog pile on our goalie as can be seen
in the pictures included (yes she really is at the bottom of that
pile!). MVP’s were as follows:
Game 1 – Kiera Friesen – she played an amazing game and scored many of
the 5 goals! As always – great effort! Kiera has one of the strongest
kicks and incredible crosses from the wing.
Game 2 – Amanda Oevering – our fearless goaltender! Amanda never quits
and made some saves that were truly amazing!
Game 3 – Danielle Thune – She played a strong game and was always there
to carry the ball down the wing. Danielle has great speed and ball
control!
Game 4 – Kassie Clark – She played a great game. Tough and strong, she
never gave up and helped lead her team to the victory. She scored the
first goal in the game which wound up being the game winner.
All the girls played great and I am very proud of how much this team has
improved over the year. This was a great end to a great year.
