A Message from the ASA President, Dan Village:

August 3, 2008

I am quickly learning that the soccer season in Abbotsford never really ends. It is a continuous cycle of leagues, seasons, meetings, matches, more meetings, registrations, discussions, more meetings, and, well…you get the picture. Already things have started to get ramped up for the fall/winter season with meetings under way, the kit for September spread about the Association’s office and storage areas, and people starting to get excited about the year ahead. Coaches will be contacting players very soon to begin training for the season’s kickoff in September.

Premier Development League and Y League Wrap Up

Our club’s Premier Development League team has wrapped up another season and our eight Super Y League teams completed their schedules today. It was kind of a mixed bag for both the PDL squad and the Y League teams. The PDL men showed great promise and played well but, in the end, missed out on post season play. For those of you that haven’t been out Bateman Park to watch these men play, it’s worth the trip as you’ll see some exciting soccer and the setting is second to none!

Our Y League teams have had a truly successful season as three of the eight teams will be heading off to Florida in November to take part in the North American Championships. The U14, U15, and U16 Boys teams all finished their season in the top two of their respective groups and will head off for the Finals starting on November 21 in Tampa. Well done to all eight teams for another great summer season of soccer.

Issue of the Week:

What about the website? Why aren’t there more game reports on there?
Why isn’t it updated more often?

We really do encourage anyone to submit suitable stories, game updates, photos, and items of interest to our website. Down in the lower left hand corner of the home page is a link for people to send items to our webmaster for publishing on the site. There have been complaints that only certain teams are featured on the site but that’s because they fire in a line or two about their result.

We’d love to see more photos, game summaries, and updates from everywhere in the club. I see lots of cameras out at the parks: Send in those photos! It makes for a lively and interesting website when we hear from more people. The other sections of the site need continuous updating and that takes time. Another goal of mine is to ensure these sections are kept current and useful to you, the users. If you have an idea or something you’d like to see on the site, use the link below to let me know or connect with the webmaster from his link on the home page.

I’m getting more and more things to write about for this weekly update. Thanks to those taking the time to send in their ideas. Please email me at president@abbotsfordsoccer.com with your input and I’ll work to find the answer by next Monday’s update.

Thanks to all for your continued support of our club.

Dan
