Abbotsford Mariners Women’s Soccer team sweep the Provincial Cup.
The Mariners played their first game of the Provincial cup finals against Surrey, defeating them 4-0. The Mariners known for their ball possession kept control of the ball barely giving Surrey a chance.

Playing their second game Saturday afternoon the Mariners played Burnaby Selects. Using the same style of play defeating Burnaby by a score of 5-0.

Playing again Saturday night the tired Mariners found it difficult to keep the pace they controlled the last 2 games. After some soul searching at half time the Mariners found their second wind and took over the game. Scoring another 5 goals and allowing none during the game.  Setting the Mariners up for the Provincial Cup Gold Medal game on Sunday against SurDel F.C.

The gold medal game started at a very fast pace. SurDel dictating to the Mariners the style and pace of the game. With SurDel being a very physical team the wanted nothing better than to be the team that stopped the Mariners on their quest for an unblemished season. The Mariners scored their first goal 15 min from half time and held the score until half time. Another team talk about character and what the game and season meant to them and the rest was history. The Mariners scored two more goals before giving SurDel a corner kick. SurDel capitalized on a greatly played corner. SurDel seamed satisfied to be the only team to score on the Mariners at the Provincial Cup, but the Mariners would make them pay again. 5 min from time they played a ball over SurDel’s half with one striker making the run received the ball and as the keeper was making her move slotted the ball into the back of the net. Score 4-1.

This caps a very successful season for the Mariners Women’s program.  The Mariners women’s team have won 2 Provincial titles in the past 4 years making them the most successful women’s team in the Valley. The Mariners did not see defeat all season and next season will be playing in the Premier women’s league.
