The U16 Abbotsford Mariner Girls won their first match at the Canadian
National Championships today at Sherewood Park in Alberta.
The girls had a very slow start as they came out a bit nervous and
before they knew it they were down by a score of 2-1 at the end of the
first half.
Coach Bill Broadfoot regrouped his troops with a "frank" discussion at
halftime and the girls responded by scoring two goals in the first seven
minutes of play in the second half to make the score 3-2.
The Mariners didn't take their foot off the pedal and finished the game
with a score of 6-2. All players got playing time and the team
came away without any injuries.
The Mariners next game is tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM vs Prince Edward
Island then they move onto play the 3rd ranked Alberta on Friday
afternoon at 3:00 PM.
