The
U16 Girls Abbotsford Mariners defeated the Coquitlam City Attack
yesterday in the Championship Match hosted by Abbotsford at Bateman
Park.
The Mariners took the early lead in the match in the first half of play
in an exciting end-to-end game. The Coquitlam City girls tallied
midway through the second half to tie the game up and send the game into
overtime. Neither team capitalized on their chances and the game
went to penalty kicks.
Captain of the U16 Abbotsford Mariners, Lisa Fadden had to play in goal
as their keeper was injured in the second half of the game and was
instrumental in the penalty shootout. Fadden saved 3 penalty shots
of 7 to lead the girls to their first ever Provincial Championship.
The girls now qualify for the National Championships that will be hosted
in Edmonton, Alberta in October 2007.
In other news at Provincials the U15 Boys
Mariners also made it to the finals of the Provincial Championships and
won a Silver Medal after being defeated by a score of 4-0 to Coquitlam's Metro Ford Dynamo.
