The
Abbotsford Soccer Association is pleased to announce the appointment of
Shaun Lowther as Head Coach of the ASA.
Lowther comes to Abbotsford with an extensive background in the game at
the professional level. He is a former Canadian national
soccer team player and played in the NASL for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Born in Newcastle, England he moved to Canada just after playing for
Sunderland School Boys and Manchester United as a youth.
As a defender, Lowther played four seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps
(1980-1984) in the North American Soccer League. He then played for the
Vancouver 86ers of the Canadian Soccer League and was a member of the
1988/89 team that went 42 games unbeaten.
At the National level, Lowther played 14 times for Canada between 1983
and '85 and was also a member of the 1984 Summer Olympics Canadian team
that reached the quarter-finals.
Lowther comes to us from the NSD (National Sports Development) Soccer
Club where he was the Director of Soccer for the past 5 years.
President of the ASA, Brad Nicholl quoted "We are excited to
announce that Shaun Lowther has accepted the position of Head Coach of
the ASA. Mr. Lowther has a most impressive background and
experience in coaching and will join the ASA October 1st, 2007 once he
has fulfilled his obligation to the NSD Soccer Club in Calgary."
