The
Abbotsford Rangers were on the road again this weekend as they played
two games in PDL League play. Their first stop on Friday evening
was in Tacoma to play the second place Tide who is coached by former
Vancouver Whitecap Fran O' Brian.
The Rangers fell to the Tide by a score of 1-0 with midfielder Justin
Carvery receiving a red card and having to miss the next match the
following evening versus Yakima Reds.
The next day the lads traveled to Yakima to play the Reds on a warm
evening with temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Once again
the Rangers caused their own misfortunes and handed the Yakima team
their first goal in the 26th minute of play. Despite good play the
Rangers couldn't find the back of the net in the first half.
In the second half of play it was a different story. The Rangers
played some great possession football and continued to wear down the
Reds. David Vanderhoek tied the match in the 59th minute of play
when he scored on a header from a free kick taken by Spencer Schmidt.
The Reds then answered back on a goal only 8 minutes later and took
regained the lead 2-1.
Substitute Gagan Dosanjh came into the match with only 20 minutes to
play and changed the game for the Rangers. He took control of the
midfield and was rewarded for his efforts in the 73rd minute when
scoring on a header from David Vanderhoek's cross to tie the game once
again. The goal was Dosanjh's first for the Rangers.
In the 88th minute striker David Vanderhoek scored once again past the
Reds keepers left side into the corner of the goal and put the
Rangers on top for good. Final score was 3-2.
Up next for the Rangers are the Cascade Surge in Salem Oregon on
Saturday July 7th. The next home game is on Saturday July
14th against the Cascade Surge at Bateman Park. Kick off is at
6:00 PM.
