SYRACUSE
, N.Y. – The accolades continue to roll in for SU senior captain Brad
Peetoom (Abbotsford , British Columbia). Two days after being selected
as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in his
career, Peetoom was honored on Wednesday, Sept. 5 by being picked to the
Soccer America National Team of the Week.
Peetoom earned a place on the Wolstein Soccer Classic All-Tournament
Team for his performance in SU's first two matches. The senior organized
an Orange defense that posted back-to-back shutouts against Big Ten foes
Penn State and Ohio State at the event. In the season opener, the Orange
defeated Penn State ,4-0, and Peetoom contributed an assist in the
victory. Against Ohio State on Sunday, he helped keep the defending Big
Ten scoring champion Xavier Balc and the rest of the Buckeyes off the
scoreboard, preserving a scoreless draw.
Peetoom has earned team defensive MVP honors in each of his first three
years with the Orange . He has more than 50 career matches under his
belt and has been a part of 15 SU shutouts since 2004.
After its unbeaten weekend, Syracuse is receiving votes in this week's
NSCAA/adidas rankings. The Orange looks to remain undefeated when it
takes on fellow BIG EAST member Seton Hall at the annual Mayor's Cup on
Friday, Sept. 7 in Oneonta.
