The Club recently received an email from a Coach of another Club in the
Lower Mainland. The two teams he is referring to are Troye
Flannery's U16 Mariners Team and Peter Errington's U15 Mariners Team.
Both Coaches also coach in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport
(CIS). Troye Flannery is an Assistant Coach with the Trinity
Western University Men's Team and Peter Errington is Assistant Coach
with the University College of the Fraser Valley Men's Team. The
letter is shown below;
"Dear Brad Nicholl
Back in early January my U15 West Van boys team had the pleasure of
playing the U16 Abbotsford Mariners at the BC Futsal championships, and
yesterday, I watched the U15 Mariners game with one of the North Shore
U15 metro teams.
In both cases I was struck by the pure quality of the teams -- excellent
skill, pace and athleticism, but also very good team shape, high levels
of energy and communication, and hard, but very technical and clean,
football. I was also struck by the quality of coaching. No screaming,
and virtually no micro-managing of play from the sidelines--really
impressive.
I don't know what it is that you guys are doing in your player
development and coaching development programs but it sure as Hell seems
to be working. Watching that U15 Abby team yesterday has given me
something to aspire to with my own coaching.
Usually, all the executive members of soccer clubs ever hear is
complaints. I had some time this morning, so, I thought I'd just send
off a little note that was more positive. Great job Abbotsford."
