ASA's Head Coach Shaun Lowther looks on as the U13 Mariners took on the Long Island Roughriders yesterday.

Somewhat surprised by the result of day one the U13s were expecting a somewhat easier ride for day 2. They were surprised and disappointed. Although the first half was a see saw battle with a fairly even split of opportunity, Abby did get several chances as did NY, it was for naught.

The second half the Mariners seem to fade in the Florida sun which had returned strong and minus wind that made the prior day's game more familiar. Fifteen minutes in the the second half NY worked the ball into the eighteen where a broken scramble ensued to the left of Mariner's keeper Simon Cohen. NY's Ryan Rudinechek was able to find the handle that several Mariners and Roughriders couldn't and pumped the ball into the net - NY 1. Later in the 2nd half they again threatened. Their striker was tackled inside the box for a penalty shot. Taken with a strong kick it however went wide to keep the score at 1 to 0. NY seemed to have the momentum and pressured the Mariners frustrating their attempts to work the ball up the field. One last chance was a NY foul just outside the top of the eighteen yard box. The shot taken by Troy Holmes was well struck but, as was par for the day, just off the target. Unable to get meaningful penetration thereafter the Mariners fell without a goal.

Their record now 0-1-1 with one game left to play in their division pretty much leaves them out of the championship round but with some pride and a consolation round on Monday they may be able to get some result for this long hard journey they have been on. But they need a result in their 3rd game tomorrow - Sunday - to get there.

The U15 Mariners were defeated by a score of 2-0 by FC Westchester.
