Abbotsford
Soccer is excited to announce the Coaches for the 2008 USL season, for
both PDL and Super Y League.
The PDL Coach and the new Head Coach of the Abbotsford Soccer
Association is Shaun Lowther. Shaun came to us from the Calgary Celtics
Soccer Club where he had been Technical Director for the previous 6
years.
Shaun started off his playing career as a Youth player on the books of
the fabled Manchester Utd team. He then came across to the Vancouver
Whitecaps who assigned him to University College Dublin, where he gained
valuable experience playing in the Irish League. From 1980 to 1984 Shaun
played for the Vancouver Whitecaps of the NASL as well as representing
Canada’s Olympic and World Cup team 14 times. Shaun was a member of the
4th placed Olympic team in 1984. He played for the Vancouver 86ers, many
games as captain. He was part of the record breaking team that went 42
games without defeat. After periods in Hamilton and Winnipeg of the CSL
Shaun began his coaching career. His first appointment was as the Head
Coach of the Winnipeg Fury. He then returned to British Columbia. Prior
to his move to Calgary in 2001 Shaun had extended periods in the
Okanagan where he was instrumental in the formation of the Okanagan
Predators of the Super Y League.
As well as being the Head Coach for the PDL team, along with assistants
Peter Errington and Troye Flannery, Shaun will be overseeing the Super Y
League programme. Shaun holds a Canadian A License.
The Super Y League Coaches for the 2008 USL Season are as follows:
U13
Girls: Dan Village
Dan is the Technical Director at the Abbotsford Soccer Association. He
is the Coach of the Abbotsford U18 Select League Boys Storm and a U13
Girl’s team coach. He has been coaching in the Abbotsford Club for the
past 9 years. He led the Boys U13 Super Y League team to a spot in the
2005 National Championships.
U14
Girls: Sean Crocker
Sean has been a player at Trinity Western University and has played in
all Abbotsford PDL teams since 1997. He has been a Head Coach in the
successful Academicals programme.. He was assistant to Peter Errington,s
U16 girls team that had a very successful Y League season and National
Championship spot in 2005.
U15
Girls: Peter Errington
Peter has coached in the Super Y League for 4 years. He coached the U16
Girls to an outstanding 4 wins and one loss record in the 2004 North
American Championships in Orlando Florida. Currently Peter is the
Assistant Coach with the UCFV Men's Programme and the Head Coach of the
Abbotsford U15 Boys in the Select League. Last year he also took
over the PDL team after Colin Miller departed to England last summer. He
will also be an Assistant with Shaun Lowther in the PDL this coming
season.
U16
Girls: Colin Miller
Prior to returning to Canada in 2000 Colin played in the English and
Scottish Leagues for 18 years and was the Captain of the Canadian World
Cup team 39 times. He is only one of 2 Canadians to have managed a
Professional team in a European Premier League. In 2000 he became the
Head Coach of the Abbotsford Soccer Association, and was there for 7
years. During that time he was selected as the Canadian World Cup Team
interim coach and assisted with the Women’s World Cup Team. Colin left
Abbotsford to join Derby County in the English Premier League. He now
returns and will be coaching this very important age group as they start
preparation for their University careers.
U13
Boys: Carl Williamson
Carl was a player with UBC where he won two Canada West and one National
Championship. He has been a Camp director and Coach at Athlete In Action
camps and is currently a U12 coach in the Abbotsford Association, Carl
has coached as an assistant in the Super Y League.
U14
Boys: Ian Knight
Ian is the Head Coach for the Chilliwack Soccer Association; he was the
Head Coach of the Youth Training System at Grimsby Town of the English
Championship League. He played for Sheffield Wednesday in the English
First Division and played for England Under 23s, before injury curtailed
his career. Ian was the coach of the U13 Mariners who won a place in the
National finals in Orlando last year
U15
Boys: Alan Errington
Alan needs no introduction in B.C. He first started coaching with the
NASL Whitecaps and has had a storied career since, with the Vancouver
86ers, and the Canadian World Cup and Olympic teams. Alan coached the
Abbotsford boys team who won the Canadian U18 Nationals in 2002 as
basically a U17 team and again the following year as a U18 team. He now
heads up the UCFV men’s soccer programme. His Y League experience
includes leading an Abbotsford Boys U17 to National Championship in 2002
U16
Boys: Troye Flannery
Troye an alumnus of the Trinity Western University soccer program spent
the past seven years in Calgary where he coached the Calgary Storm of
the PDL, Mt Royal College of the CCAA, FC Calgary Super "Y" and was also
the Technical Director of the Calgary Foothills Soccer Club. After
winning a U16 National Championship with Calgary Foothills this past
Fall he has returned to BC as assistant coach with the Trinity Western
Men’s program. Troye has also taken on the Abbotsford U16 Boys team who
are currently vying for honors in the Select League. Troye will also be
assisting Shaun Lowther in the PDL this coming season.
