The Mini Kickers Under 6 Thru Under 10
Dear Parent & Coach,
The A.S.A. Mini Program is comprised of 3 components that are building
blocks in the development of our youngest players. These programs are
geared to provide players choices & avenues for what they want & need
out of the game as they grow with it.
Each program is a snapshot of a bigger picture in the recreational &
development sides of the club once they leave the Mini program and enter
the 11-aside game at U13.
We believe that Club, Coach & Parent have a responsibility to set the
standards & ideals so that soccer provides a positive, challenging,
rewarding environment & experience for all our players, from the
youngest to the oldest no matter what their level of play.
The Wee Kickers (Recreational) for players 5 & 6 years old
The Mini Kickers (Recreational) for players 7, 8 & 9 years old
The Academicals (Development) for players 7, 8 & 9 years old
What is the Mini Kickers Recreational Program?
The Mini Kickers Recreational Program is based on the smaller version of
the “big game” known as “mini soccer”. The emphasis is on fun &
sportsmanship, learning the basic skills, concepts, rules of the game &
allowing the player to learn & enjoy their game in a positive, low
pressure environment.
No standings are kept, no powerhouse teams are kept together year in &
out.
What You Can Expect For The Season
The season starts in mid September runs till the end of February with a
Christmas break from mid December till mid January. End of season
windups are usually during the first couple of Saturdays in March.
Teams consist of 12 players and we try to form the teams based on area,
but this is not always possible .We try to balance and mix teams each
season.
(a) To accommodate new players entering the club.
(b) To discourage powerhouse teams.
(c) It adds variety by having a new coach and making new friends.
(d) It eliminates the build up of rivalries between teams & the ‘Us vs.
Them’ mentality, which can sometimes breed animosity between players &
parents of opposite teams. When players acquire new teammates every
season, everyone becomes a friend and the atmosphere at games is much
more relaxed.
(e) To prevent coaches in becoming possessive of their players.
This will make it easier for players to try out for the Competitive
Development Program once leaving U10 and entering U11 without feeling
guilty or pressurized by their recreational coach to follow them into
the Competitive Recreational Program.
All U10 coaches should make aware to parents & players about U11 tryouts
and to encourage those that would be interested.
All Mini Kicker coaches should make their team players and parents aware
of the Academicals Development Program U8-U10 and its value in their
development as players prior to entering U11.
Due to the challenges of attempting to create parity within all
divisions, movement of players after teams have been formed will only be
allowed under exceptional circumstances.
Players will be contacted by their coach around late August and onwards,
if you have not received a call by the time schools have started feel
free to call soccer line 859-3033. Practice days are once a week for U8
U9 and U10. Location & time are at the discretion of the coach. U8 and
U9 train outside until late October then go into gyms U10 train outside
all season.
Games are played on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. U-8 & U-9
play 6 aside and U-10 play 7 aside.
What is needed for the season: Soccer shoes, shin-pads, water bottle &
non-marking runners for gym practices. The club will provide a complete
strip to players (socks, shorts & jersey) that they can keep at the end
of the season.
