The premise of the system is to provide for every player who desires
it, the right environment for full development of necessary skills and
knowledge to enable them to reach their potential in the game.
We will over the next season or two have the ability and resources to
offer quality programs for every age and every level of play.
At present we have a Head Coach, Shaun Lowther, whose experience and
expertise we must feed off. Colin is setting up three levels of training
for our players and coaches. It will take time and patience to get the
system totally up and running but the seeds have been set and we feel
confident that we will achieve our aims.
Teams will be basically divided into development and recreational teams.
Development teams will play at the Select, Gold and Silver levels for
boys and Metro, Gold & Silver A for girls. All players for Developmental
teams will be selected based on their performances during the season or
at a tryout.
Development Team - $130 per Player Fee
For teams selected to take part in the Development Programs that takes
place at Delair Park and or Upper Sumas Elementary School during the
Season there is a charge of $130 per player. The basis for this fee is
to provide the teams involved with two practice times per week on a
grass field with lights. With the added advantage of additional coaching
from Shaun Lowther on a revolving basis.
Teams, Players and Parents should not see this fee as a "Shaun
Lowther
Fee" as the charge is necessary to provide the teams with the extra
practice time and access to a lighted grass field. It is important to
note that the teams U12 to U18 that are not involved in the development
program at Delair Park/Upper Sumas have access only to one (1) practice
time per week and this is on an all weather field (gravel).
The Development Fee will be collect by the Team Manager and ALL Player's
Development Fees must be collected and presented at the time the teams
are to receive their Uniforms and Players ID Cards. Any team not having
a cheque from each and every player will not be given their uniforms or
Player ID Cards until the fee have been collected and received by the
Club. There will be NO exceptions - so coaches and managers please be
certain to collect these cheques as soon as you select your players.
Players will be allocated to teams based on their current abilities, but
it will never be forgotten that all players develop at different times
and rates. There will therefore be ongoing player assessments.
Developmental teams will train with their coaches under the supervision
of the Head Coach who will be directly involved with each team on a
rotating basis.
Recreational teams will be serviced by ongoing clinics aimed at their
coaches. The Head Coach will conduct a monthly clinic on specific
subjects such as attacking, defensive shape, etc. Any Recreational coach
who feels he or she has a player who has "slipped the net" will be able
to request that the player be assessed for entry into the Developmental
level.
Shaun Lowther will also be responsible for the training of the players
who are allocated to the School of Excellence. There will be
approximately 20 boys and 20 girls who will be selected to the School.
These players will train during the afternoons throughout the year with
appropriate breaks. Players selected to the School of Excellence will be
placed in the School for a minimum of 6 months. They will only be cut
for disciplinary or injury reasons during that time.
A contract will be drawn up between the Club and player. This will lay
down the expectations of both parties. During the School of
Excellence breaks, players who are considered on the fringe of the
School will be trained.
The Club has formed connections with an English League Club and is
currently exploring the possibility of becoming involved with
Universities both in Canada and the United States.
If a player is motivated, skilled, and has the right attitude to
training, there is no reason for him or her not to have a real shot at
University soccer. We intend to make sure he or she has the right
environment to do so.
